Last Stand

Last stand
Win or lose
Feel the pain
Rearing up again
To hurt, to kill
To bend to the will
Of those that time forgets
Lost in the void
Spinning on end
Around and around
All over again
Forgetting the cycle
How long until the end?
Fires still burning
Yet never flaring again
Before, beyond, for what is time
Constant shifting
Merging, splitting
This road once, that one twice
Trying out another vice
Build another device,
Designed to end,
End the pain, end the joy
End the world
Echo’s of words
Whispered in prayer
Keep on crying
No one cares
Quit the fight
Snuff the light
Make a choice
Balance is a myth
So is free will
You know your path
The prophecy you’ll fulfill
Somber twilight
You gave it all
Trying to stop this
Endless fall
Grace, love, charity
The pulpit, it screams
Legends of grandeur,
That never was real
What is real, what is fake?
Where’s the exit to escape?
To hit bottom would
Bring relief, the gasping
Drop at last complete
The noose man’s head
Turns to stop
Staring blindly as
The candle flickers out
Pride, rage, despair
All forgotten on the stairs
The castle crumbles
Under the cold of steel.
